I am a computational biologist interested in eukaryotic regulatory networks. The methods that I develop integrate different types of cellular interaction networks and aid the biological analysis of pathways and protein interactions.
Previously, I analyzed the transcriptional and post-transcriptional gene expression regulation in yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). I am now turning to higher eukaryotes, including mammals.

A brief overview of my career:

I got my first degree from the University of Osnabrück as a system scientist. This program covers math, computer science and systems theory (systems analysis, model development, simulation).
During my undergrad time (1996) I worked at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in the group for Transboundary Airpollution.
I wrote my first thesis (1998/1999) together with Don Mackay at the Trent University in Canada. During my PhD I stayed at Trent for a second time (2000).
My PhD (finished 2002) dealt with the simulation of environmental transport of toxic chemicals and was conducted at the Institute for Environmental Systems Research (Osnabrück) and at the Canadian Environmental Modelling Centre.
I spent my post-doc time at the Fritz Lipmann Institute in Jena in Thomas Wilhelm's Group (Theoretical Systems Biology),
and in Trey Ideker's lab at UCSD.
Since 2007 I am heading my own group at the BIOTEC in Dresden, Germany.
